Americans are Throwing Away Money

This new article from CBS News shows that Americans are throwing away millions of dollars in coins every year.  I'll give it to this waste management company which recycles the metal it collects, but also pulls out the coins to be sold back to the mint.

Found Another Penny Lover

Here's a penny lover, known as Trevor, in the Canyon News. I agree with the author's point that every penny counts and has value, but most of the other stuff in the article is inaccurate. Businesses CAN refuse your payment in pennies, and SHOULD. And the idea that ditching the penny would throw the financial world into utter chaos is the funniest joke I've read all week. And his statement concluding that we wouldn't still have them if they weren't important is the most absurd thing I've heard. The government is so chock full of inefficiencies, it's hard to know where to start the long list. And the comment about the penny's elimination leading to the elimination of the nickel and quarter? Well, we can only hope this will be the case. We should definitely get rid of nickels and dimes, for sure.  I haven't decided on the quarter yet. This guy may love pennies, but I think he'll love life more when they are gone.
